When you're planning an out-of-state move, it's important to be informed and prepared; it can certainly be quite an undertaking.
To help you stay on track in the weeks leading up to your moving day, we suggest printing a copy of Box Ox Moving's comprehensive Moving Checklist and marking tasks off as you go. Then, follow the simple suggestions included in Box Ox Moving's Moving Timeline below to help make the moving process much more manageable:
-
Create a moving file to keep quotes, information, and receipts.
This file will hold all of your important moving documents so keep it with you throughout the entire process.
-
Start researching moving companies and getting moving quotes.
Making an educated, informed decision on which moving company you will use is one of the most important things you'll do. Time spent researching and comparing is time well spent.
-
Gather moving supplies.
At a minimum you'll need moving boxes, packing tape, bubble wrap, and newsprint. You may also want to consider mattress bags, furniture pads, paper padding, stretch wrap and a dolly.
-
Begin purging your home.
Whether you donate, have a garage sale, or throw away, if you don't use it, don't move it. Doing this will save time and money in the long-run.
-
Be prepared.
Verify you have everything ready for moving day. Do you know where the moving truck or moving container will park? Do you have loading help? Do you have plans for your children and/or pets? Have you reviewed Box Ox Moving's packing and loading tips?
-
Tell people you're moving.
Whether friends, family or companies you do business with, remember to call or go online to change your address and cancel services and/or subscriptions. Box Ox Moving's moving checklist offers a full list of people and places you don't want to forget.
-
Get familiar with your new city.
Request a newcomer's packet from the Chamber of Commerce, check out the city website and online forums or take a road-trip and visit. Knowing what to expect from your city, neighborhood, schools, etc., will make the transition much easier – especially if you're moving with children.
